A tortoiseshell cat called Midnight navigated two miles of sewers to get back to her home in Cheltenham, England. Midnight had been lost down a storm drain 10 days before.

Midnight’s owner, Jeanette Young, thought she would never see the cat again until a neighbour heard meows coming from underneath a manhole cover outside the home.

Workmen from Severn Trent rescued the cat and explained that the nearest place she could have entered the drain was two miles away.

Ms Young said:

“It is like a comic book story about a super cat. How on Earth did she find her way back home underground? It has certainly put a smile on their faces.”

Three abandoned kittens have found themselves an unlikely father figure in a 12-year-old rescue dog.

The kittens were abandoned behind a cafe on St Patrick’s day and so have been named Seamus, Shamrock and Macpanda. They were rescued by Hounslow Animal Welfare (Haws) and taken to Pet Care in Chiswick. They have since been cared for by Haws volunteer, Juliette Thomlinson, from Richmond, along with her neighbour and their 12-year-old rescue dog, Rockne. Kittens with rescue dog

Mrs Tomlinson said of Rockne:

“He’s an elderly dog and very well behaved. We put the kittens on him and he gives them a clean up. That’s part of what there mother would do and helps the whole digestive process.

“They need feeding every two hours, day and night, but he sleeps through some of the night feeds like any typical dad.”

The kittens will stay with their foster dog until they are nine weeks old when a permanent home will be sought.

Haws stresses the importance of owners getting their cats neuterd to prevent unwanted litters.
